Welcome to the Democracy in Education Initiative!

The John Dewey Society has inaugurated a Democracy in Education Initiative to defend, cultivate, and advance civic and community schooling, in K-12, higher education, and other contexts. We aim to:

  1. Catalyze emerging publics to defend, cultivate, and advance robust civic and community schooling, in K-12, higher education, and other contexts, which cross partisan and other bitter divides
  2. Revitalize the public presence of the society as a center for theorists, leaders, and organizers of robust civic and community schooling, in K-12, higher education, and other contexts.
  3. Incubate new models of public work and training for a variety of communities, from academics, to practitioners, to community stakeholders, and to students.
  4. Network leaders and organizations in civic and community school by mapping the movement and initiating relational dialogues.

In our blog, you will find updates about research, upcoming projects, and opportunities to collaborate. We also welcome opportunities for relational discussions and networking.
